The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s president, Courtney B. Vance, and executive director, Cyd Wilson, sent letters to the union’s highest-earning members to ask for money to help those who would be hurt the most by the strike. The actors union had decided to go on strike after weeks of talks with the AMPTP had failed to reach an agreement.

Shortly after the letter was sent, Dwayne Johnson’s team got in touch to say he wanted to help, so he and Vance got on the phone.
“It was a party of love. “It’s like, ‘Man, you’re stepping up in a way that lets other people know how important it is,'” Vance told Johnson about the A-lister’s donation to the fund. The exact amount is being kept secret, but Vance was moved by the generous act. This is him saying, ‘In such a time as this, I’m here and I’m not leaving; I’ll do whatever you need.’ And that tells a lot of people that they should do the same thing.”
